Mermaid Boat Trips is one of the first tour operators to discover Klein Curacao. Today Mermaid has been organizing trips to Klein Curacao for over 35 years. Mermaid Boat Trips has a motor vessel at its disposal which sails up to about 100 people back and forth 5 to 6 times a week. Frequently asked questions about this day trip
In high season, day trips are sold out weeks before departure. We advise you to always make reservations as soon as you know when you want to go to Klein Curacao. You run no risk by making reservations early. To make reservations and secure your spot(s) you only need to make a small deposit of 20%. The remainder is due 48 hours before departure. On most day trips, you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before departure. For cancellations less than 48 hours before departure or no-show, there is no refund.
With the exception of the Powerboat, each provider has a so-called "Dinghy," a small rubber motorboat that takes all guests, dry from the boat to Klein Curacao. Of course, you can also just jump off the boat and swim to the island. The powerboat lands as close to the beach as possible so you will at least get your feet wet.
The number of people on board varies by provider. Miss Ann, the Mermaid and Bluefinn with the large Catamarans carry about 60 to 70 guests per trip. With Irie Tours you can expect about 50 fellow guests. If you prefer something smaller you could opt for Bluefinn's TopCat which carries about 30 guests per trip.
There are only two providers that have access to restrooms on the island. These are the Mermaid and Miss Ann. All other providers do not have toilets on the island but they do, for example, on the boat. Unfortunately, the Mermaid and Miss Ann's restrooms on the island are for their guests only. If you come by Powerboat, which does not have a restroom, you can ask the Mermaid or Miss Ann if you would be allowed there for a moment. If kindly asked, this is usually granted.
Yes, with the Mermaid (click here for the Mermaid)! The Mermaid is the only provider really equipped for disabled people. You can bring a wheelchair on board and the Mermaid also has a beach wheelchair available upon request. You do need to always request or mention in advance that you are bringing a wheelchair. All other providers we would not recommend going along if you are disabled.
The sea between Curaçao and the paradise of Klein Curaçao can be really rough and wild depending on the weather. If you suffer from seasickness easily, take a pill against seasickness and have breakfast beforehand. You can experience seasickness on all boats except the Powerboat. Because the Powerboat sails so fast low over the sea, the chance of seasickness is nil, and what's more, you'll be on the beach of Klein Curacao in 45 minutes.
